About Me.
Hi, I'm Stephanie Denton, LMFT (she/they).
I believe that healing happens in spaces where we feel seen, accepted, and safe enough to be fully ourselves. Therapy offers an opportunity to slow down, make sense of our experiences, and reconnect with the parts of ourselves that may have become hidden, overwhelmed, or disconnected along the way.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and the Founder and Executive Director of Safe Spaces Therapy, a nonprofit organization in San Francisco dedicated to providing affirming, trauma-informed mental health services to children, teens, and adults. My work is rooted in a deep belief that everyone deserves access to compassionate and culturally responsive care.
Over the past several years, I have had the privilege of supporting children, adolescents, and adults navigating anxiety, trauma, grief, life transitions, identity exploration, and relationship challenges. I have a special passion for working with LGBTQ+ individuals and families, sensitive and creative children, and adults navigating significant life transitions, including perimenopause and midlife changes.
My approach is warm, relational, and collaborative. I integrate person-centered, psychodynamic, attachment-focused, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) approaches with expressive arts therapy, mindfulness, somatic practices, and play therapy. I believe that healing is not one-size-fits-all and that therapy should honor the unique experiences, strengths, identities, and wisdom that each person brings into the room.
Why I Love This Work
I love being a therapist because I am continually inspired by people's capacity for resilience, creativity, and growth. It is a profound privilege to witness someone discover a new understanding of themselves, reconnect with hope, or experience a moment of feeling truly seen and understood. I believe meaningful change happens through relationship, curiosity, and compassion, and I feel deeply honored to walk alongside people during some of the most vulnerable and transformative moments of their lives.
A Few Fun Facts About Me
When I'm not in the therapy room, you'll often find me creating art, attending life drawing sessions, playing percussion, or spending time near the ocean and rivers. Creativity and nature are important forms of self-care in my own life and continually remind me of the value of slowing down, staying curious, and making space for restoration.
I believe therapy can be much the same—a place to pause, become curious, and gently reconnect with yourself.
I would be honored to support you or your child on your journey toward healing, growth, and a more connected and authentic life.
